Friends Annual Meeting

Our annual meeting is this coming Tuesday, October 2nd at 7 PM in the meeting room at the library. There is alot to discuss and all members of the Friends are welcome to join us. In fact, it's important that we have a quorum for the meeting. We'd love to hear our members thoughts and ideas. At the annual meeting, we review the past year, and we also plan for 2008. We will also elect new board members. This year there is also an officer opening. Please come if you are interested in any of these positions.

Book Group Choices

The Friends book group met on 9/11 to discuss The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
The group also chose the next three books for discussion:

November 6 Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

January 8 The Last Days of Dogtown by Anita Diamont

March 4 Suite Francais by Irene Nemirovsky

At the November meeting, we plan to select a non-fiction book for discussion at our June meeting. We are looking for ideas/input for this book choice.

Fundraiser Ideas Meeting

At our board meeting last night, we covered alot of topics including our 2008 budget. We are still looking for ideas for 2008 fundraisers and felt we needed a separate meeting to discuss this topic and brainstorm. We would like to meet on August 16th at 7 pm at the library to discuss only this topic. Food to be provided- maybe pizza or sandwichs and salad? More details to follow.

MP3 RAFFLE

Come into the library during August and buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win 1 of two MP3 players. The Friends are raffling off two MP3 players in September. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.00. Watch for more information about a class how to download digital music and books, also sponsored by the Friends.

September Book Group Choice

The September book group choice is The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz-Zafon. The group meets on September 11th at 7 PM at the library to discuss this international best-seller. It's the story about a boy's quest through the secrets and shadows of post war Barcelona for a mysterious author whose book has proved as dangerous to own as it is impossible to forget.

Also at the September meeting we will pick the next two books. We'd love to hear about other great books, so bring your suggestions.

August 2007 Board Meeting

Join us on August 7th at 7 PM at the Pembroke Public Library for our August Board Meeting. All Friends are welcome. This meeting will focus on the 2008 Budget Review, as well as, planning for our 2008 Fund Raiser. We are always looking for new ideas and new volunteers. In lieu of the mystery next year, The Friends will host a wine tasting/silent auction. Harry Potter Party

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the Harry Potter Party a sucess. The Friends raffled off the new and final volume of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." There were some great costumes and Deborah Wall took alot of pictures, some of which we will hopefully post on our new blog site.
